A Legacy in Every Cup
Coffee Bliss began in 1975 with a simple dream: to share the world’s finest coffee with Brew City. Founder Margaret Brewer, inspired by her travels to Ethiopia, opened a small roastery on Coffee Street, sourcing beans directly from small-scale farmers. Her dedication to quality and community laid the groundwork for what would become a local institution.
The Birth of the Café (1985)
By 1985, Coffee Bliss had outgrown its roastery. Margaret transformed the space into a cozy café, complete with exposed brick walls and vintage furniture. It quickly became a haven for artists, students, and locals seeking connection over steaming cups. The café’s signature Ethiopian Yirgacheffe blend, with its floral notes, remains a menu staple today.
Embracing Sustainability (2005)
In 2005, under the leadership of Margaret’s daughter, Clara Brewer, Coffee Bliss committed to sustainable sourcing. Partnering with Fair Trade cooperatives, the shop ensured farmers received fair wages while preserving traditional growing methods. This ethos extended to eco-friendly packaging and energy-efficient equipment, setting a new standard for the industry.
Heritage Blends and Innovation (2020)
Celebrating 45 years, Coffee Bliss launched its Heritage Blend series in 2020, featuring seasonal roasts that honor the shop’s history. From the “1975 Original” to the “Yirgacheffe Revival,” these blends pay homage to the past while embracing modern tastes. The shop also introduced cold brew and nitro coffee, appealing to a new generation of coffee lovers.
Today and Tomorrow
Today, Coffee Bliss stands as Brew City’s heart, hosting open mic nights, book clubs, and coffee-tasting events. With Clara at the helm and a third generation of Brewers learning the trade, the shop plans to expand with a second location while staying true to its roots. Every cup tells a story—of tradition, community, and the journey that started with a single bean.
